- Conducted groundbreaking research, independently as well as for the OECD and the US National Science Foundation, on how illicit gold serves as both a revenue source and money laundering mechanism for transnational criminal organizations, state actors, non-state armed groups, and terrorist organizations.
- Conducted the largest study ever published on refined oil theft and related illicit downstream hydrocarbons activity. Working for the Atlantic Council, we examined the modalities of refined oil theft in ten case studies: Mexico, Nigeria, Ghana, Morocco, Uganda, Mozambique, Thailand, Azerbaijan, Turkey and the EU at large (including the UK). We identified trends of illicit activity, explored the global extent and implications of the problem, and developed an extensive set of recommendations.
